Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal is calling the winter storm in Atlanta a “big wake-up call” and is vowing to address future storms more aggressively.
“I think it’s been a big wake-up call,” Deal, a Republican, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on Thursday. “I think it’s going to cause all of us to be more aggressive in terms of declaring states of emergency, in terms of deploying our emergency personnel, especially with our Department of Transportation.”

The governor, who earlier Thursday took responsibility and apologized for the state’s lack of preparation in dealing with the storm, also said he would need to do more than just apologize for missteps made by state and local officials.
“You know, apologies are something that don’t change the circumstances,” he said. “What we intend to do is to change the circumstances so in the event such a similar event occurs that we will react earlier and that we will have the resources to be able to make an effective dent in that problem.”
