Coburn says he doing great, despite Obamacare - UPI.com

WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Retiring U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., said Tuesday he isn't allowed specialists under the Affordable Care Act, but is still getting "great care."

Coburn revealed in November he has had a recurrence of prostate cancer.

"I'm doing well from a health standpoint, got great docs and fortunately, even though my new coverage won't cover my specialists," Coburn, a medical doctor, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I'm going to have great care and I have a great prognosis."

Besides attacking healthcare reform, Coburn in the past has suggested Medicare is unconstitutional.

In an interview only hours before the State of the Union address, Coburn assailed what he called President Obama's lack of leadership, and the president's "to-do list."

"You know, what you need is principled, character-based, moral-based leadership that puts the country and the people first, not a political party first, not my to-do list first but what our nation was founded on and that's both liberty and equality. When you have an imbalance of either, we're in trouble."

Obama reportedly is considering doing end runs around blocking congressional Republicans on a number of issues through executive action.

"What we need is real leadership, and my friend has used the politics of division more than any president I know in my lifetime, and what you have today is tremendous anxiety in our country, tremendous worry about our country," Coburn said.
