BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhuanet) -- US President Barack Obama has said he will sign a bill allowing Congress to review a deal concerning Iran's nuclear program. The president said the move was a "reasonable compromise," and would not derail talks with Tehran.
Obama conceded on Tuesday that Congress will have the power to review the deal after Republicans and Democrats crafted a rare compromise measure. World powers and Iran are set to begin a new round of negotiations aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear programs in exchange for sanction relief.
A framework agreement was reached on April 2, but differences remain on how fast the sanctions would be lifted. Asked at a White House news conference whether he would definitively rule out lifting sanctions at once as part of a final deal, Obama left the door open, saying his main concern is how to snap back sanctions if there's a violation.
"Our main concern here is making sure that if Iran doesn't abide by its agreement, that we don't have to jump through a whole bunch of hoops in order to reinstate sanctions, that's our main concern," said Obama.
