The driver and seven passengers aboard a van died early Monday morning after the vehicle crashed on State Road 78 and US-27 in Glades County, Fla., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 12:31 a.m. single-vehicle accident near the town of Moore Haven also left the van’s ten other passengers injured, including at least 3 in serious condition, the agency announced following a preliminary investigation.

Investigators believe the van passed through a stop sign while moving east on State Road 78 before swerving over every lane of the intersecting highway and falling down the steep side of a water-filled canal on the east side of US-27, said public affairs officer Lt. Gregory S. Bueno.

First responders rushed the 10 survivors, one of whom is a 4-year-old child in stable condition, to four different nearby South Florida hospitals, Bueno noted.
