The Daily News is launching a fund to help support the families of slain NYPD Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in their time of need.

New York’s hometown newspaper is making an initial donation of $10,000 for each officer’s family, and asking our readers to join us by donating to a designated Daily News Charities fund.

“Like all of New York, the Daily News mourns the tragic loss of police officers, Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu. No amount of words or deeds can comfort their families at this devastating time,” said Colin Myler, The News’ president and editor-in-chief.

“But we hope our appeal will give anyone who wants the opportunity to help them on their long and painful road to recovery,” Myler said.

Every dollar donated will go directly to the families.

The New York Red Bulls soccer team was the first to pledge Monday to make a donation to The News’ fund to help the families.

“The New York Red Bulls would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the families of the fallen officers of the New York Police Department. The bravery and courage our law enforcement display on a daily basis is nothing short of heroic. We mourn with you today and stand by you always,” said Red Bulls General Manager Marc de Grandpre.

Ramos, 40, leaves behind a wife and two sons — one 13 and the other in college. Liu, 32, is survived by a wife of just two months, and an extended family who depended on him for financial help.

After visiting Liu’s loved ones Monday, Gov. Cuomo said the family had practical concerns, like “how do they now pay the mortgage on the house and medical bills for Liu’s ailing mother.”

Those interested in donating to help the slain cops’ families can contribute through PayPal, send payments electronically to Daily News Charities, account number 9387-575-837, routing number 021-000-322 or make checks payable to Daily News Charities, Inc. and mail to:
