HOUSTON (KTRK) --
The respiratory illness infecting children across the nation could now be in our area.
Lindsy Fox with Texas Children's Hospital confirms they've sent out a specimen for testing that could be the enterovirus. It's unclear when they will get the results back from the centers for disease control.
According to the CDC, there have been more than 270 cases in 40 states since mid-August. Symptoms of the enterovirus can resemble a cold, but experts tell parents to seek medical attention if their child develops a fever or rash, or has difficulty breathing.
