Storms bear down on Tulsa in evening rush - MiamiHerald.com

Severe storms were bearing down on the Tulsa area, ending a quiet start to the nation's tornado season.

Tornado warnings were issued and sirens blared for a time Wednesday night as a pair of storms moved across the area.

After the first storm passed, amateur radio operators reported damage in the Sand Springs community west of the city. A second storm passed through the city a half-hour later, prompting another tornado warning.

No injuries were reported.

The Storm Prediction Center had warned that a clash of warm and cooler air masses could lead to violent storms. It predicted mostly hail and high winds, but said tornadoes couldn't be ruled out.

Tornadoes were also reported in the Ozark Mountains of northwestern Arkansas. No injuries were reported there, either.
