After trailing at halftime with President Obama in attendance Saturday, unbeaten eighth-seeded Princeton stepped up to defeat ninth-seeded Wisconsin Green Bay, 80-70, at College Park, Md., for the Tigers' first win in an NCAA tournament game.
Michelle Miller's 20 points led Princeton (31-0), which made 56.3% (nine of 16) of its three-point shots, in the Spokane Regional game. Annie Tarakchian, a 6-foot junior forward from Chaminade Prep, added 19 points, 17 rebounds and five assists to beat the Phoenix (28-5).
Obama's niece, freshman forward Leslie Robinson, is on Princeton's roster, but did not play. She is the daughter of former Oregon State coach Craig Robinson. Princeton next plays Maryland on Monday.
Maryland 75, New Mexico State 57: Brionna Jones had 22 points and 12 rebounds as the top-seeded Terrapins (31-2) beat the 16th-seeded Aggies (22-8) at College Park.
Pittsburgh 51, Chattanooga 40: Stasha Carey had 16 points and 13 rebounds as the 10th-seeded Panthers (20-11) upset the seventh-seeded Mocs (29-4) at Knoxville, Tenn. Pitt plays Tennessee on Monday.
Tennessee 72, Boise State 61: The second-seeded Lady Vols (28-5) pulled away in the last two minutes against the 15th-seeded Broncos (22-11) at Knoxville.
In the Greensboro Regional:
Arkansas Little Rock 69, Texas A&M 60: Taylor Gault's 25 points led the 11th-seeded Trojans (29-4) over the sixth-seeded Aggies (23-10) at Tempe, Ariz. Arkansas Little Rock plays Arizona State on Monday.
Arizona State 74, Ohio 55: Katie Hempen's 23 points included five three-pointers as the third-seeded Sun Devils (28-5) beat 14th-seeded Bobcats at Tempe.
North Carolina 71, Liberty 65: The fourth-seeded Tar Heels (25-8) shot 49% and held off the 13th-seeded Flames (26-7) at Chapel Hill, N.C., giving Coach Sylvia Hatchell a victory after she missed the NCAA tournament last year because of leukemia. North Carolina plays Ohio State on Monday.
Ohio State 90, James Madison 80: The fifth-seeded Buckeyes (24-10), who started three freshmen, shot 58% in the second half to beat the 12th-seeded Dukes (29-4) at Chapel Hill.
Florida Gulf Coast 75, Oklahoma State 67: The seventh-seeded Eagles (31-2) avenged a 2014 first-round NCAA loss as they beat the 10th-seeded Cowboys (20-12) at Tallahassee, Fla. FGCU plays Florida State on Monday.
Florida State 91, Alabama State 49: The second-seeded Seminoles (30-4) had 18 steals en route to the rout of the 15th-seeded Hornets (17-15) at Tallahassee.
In the Oklahoma City Regional:
Oklahoma 111, Quinnipiac 84: The fifth-seeded Sooners (21-11) routed the 12th-seeded Bobcats (31-4) at Palo Alto. Oklahoma plays Stanford on Monday.
In the Albany Regional:
Connecticut 89 St. Francis (N.Y.) 33: Morgan Tuck's 27 points led the top-seeded Huskies (33-1), who shot 70.2% and beat the 16th-seeded Terriers (15-19) at Storrs, Conn. Connecticut plays Rutgers on Monday.
Rutgers 79, Seton Hall 66: The eighth-seeded Scarlet Knights (23-9) made seven three-point shots as they beat the ninth-seeded Pirates (28-6) at Storrs.
Louisville 86, Brigham Young 53: The third-seeded Cardinals (26-6) scored 38 points off 30 turnovers as they routed the 14th-seeded Cougars (23-10) at Tampa, Fla. Louisville plays South Florida on Monday.
South Florida 73, Louisiana State 64: Courtney Williams had 17 points to lead the sixth-seeded Bulls (27-7) over the 11th-seeded Tigers (17-14) at Tampa.
