Canadians mark International Women's Day - CTV News

MONTREAL -- Canadians joined women around the world in marking International Women's Day on Sunday.

In Montreal, dozens of demonstrators briefly blocked access to the Suncor oil refinery in a protest against the oil sands and the petroleum industry.

Later that day, marchers in a second Montreal event highlighted the problem of missing aboriginal women and protested the Quebec government's austerity cuts.

There was also a rally in Halifax.

On Saturday thousands turned out for a rally in Toronto.

The federal government marked International Women's Day by announcing funding for a $750,000 project to support leadership opportunities for girls and young women.

International women's day has been celebrated since 1975.
