Travel bans in the New York region were lifted Tuesday morning and subway service was poised to resume after a winter storm brought less snow than had been forecast.
Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York and Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey lifted the orders in separate announcements. The Metropolitan Transit Authority will restart subways this morning, Cuomo said.
New Jersey Transit will resume limited rail service by this afternoon, Christie said on Twitter.
New York City may get no more than a foot as the nor’easter tapers off Tuesday evening, compared with a forecast of as much as 23.8 inches, according to Steve Lavoie, a staff meteorologist at Hometown Forecast Services in Nashua, New Hampshire.
