Father of patient holding two hostages at Tomball hospital - Chron.com


An armed man was holding at least one person hostage Saturday night inside the Tomball Regional Medical Center, authorities said.


The man, believed to be the father of a patient, was suspected to be armed with a gun and appeared distraught, according to officials. Late Saturday, he had barricaded himself and at least one other a person, likely a family member, inside a patient room, said Tomball Police Department detective James Harral.


A hostage negotiator with the Harris County Sheriff's Office High Risk Operation Unit and the Tomball Police Deapartment were at the scene at 605 Holderrieth Blvd.


As of 9 p.m., the hospital had not been evacuated and no one was hurt, Harral said.


Tomball Regional Medical Center, established in 1976, sits on a 150-acre campus with 358 licensed beds, including intensive care units. The hospital has several speciality centers including a cancer treatment center.
