Top 2 Congressional Republicans Back Vaccines - ABC News

WASHINGTON — Feb 3, 2015, 3:22 PM ET

The top two Republican leaders in Congress have backed childhood vaccinations.

House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'nuhr) says there may not be a need for a law, but that "all children ought to be vaccinated."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that as a polio survivor, he's a "big fan of vaccinations" — and as a parent, he would come down on the side of vaccinations.

Other politicians have been less clear on the question amid a measles outbreak in the U.S.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky both were forced to clarify their comments and state their support for vaccination after saying that parents should have a choice in the matter.

McConnell and Boehner commented Tuesday at separate news conferences.
