Team black and blue … or white and gold?
It's enough to make you doubt your own eyes, and probably your sanity: Two people standing next to each other and looking at the same picture of a dress can see TOTALLY different colors.
Arguments over the optical illusion whipped around the Internet on Thursday after the dress hit Tumblr one day earlier — and started freaking people out when the dress apparently changed colors with every glance.
Some people swore it’s a trick of the monitor, and that tilting it would change the color. But others who swore it was white and gold were shocked when they looked at Deadspin. These die-hards scrolled down, looked at another blue dress, and when they scrolled back up, the colors had switched.
It’s enough to give you goose bumps, if not send you toppling out of your chair, as happened to one Daily Newser when the colors seemed to switch from one moment to the next.
Not even Taylor Swift could shake off the weird feeling, tweeting that “it's OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK.”
A woman who saw the dress in person, Caitlin McNeill, tried to settle the wardrobe wrangling by telling BuzzFeed the dress is definitely black and blue in real life.
McNeill is a member of the folk band Canach and said she got the infamous pic before playing a wedding, where the bride's mother planned to wear the dress.
"I showed my band...who were playing at the wedding with me, and we all fell out trying to decide what the problem was," McNeill said. "We almost didn't make it on stage because we were so caught up discussing this dress."
The world can relate.
The dress debate broke traffic records for Buzzfeed, bringing 670,000 to the site simultaneously at one point, CNNMoney reported.
"#TheDress" was also the world's most popular hashtag Thursday night.
If you want to get your own hands on the dress, the British clothing site Roman has it for sale in several color patterns... including black and blue (but NOT white and gold).
So... which colors do you see?
