On Tuesday, power interruption happened near Washington, DC as a power line broke loose in an electrical substation. It quickly dims the White House. It emptied the museum and cut the government buildings electricity including the US Capitol for a few hours.
The State Department and Justice Department were only among the many other customers whose electricity was cut on early afternoon. This is along some offices of World Bank and University of Maryland.
The electrical company said that the power outage was due to a breaking loose of power line in southern state of Washington that leads to voltage drop.
Some concerns circulated that militant groups might be behind the shortage. Yet, the Department of Homeland Security ensured that no malicious activity was seen. This outage affected the center of Washington prior to its restoration after a few hours.
The press room and offices of White House quickly went dark prior to the restoration with the use of backup sources. During the outage, the President was in the Oval Office and hence he did not notice that such outage even occurred as per Josh Earnest.
Because the power was lost, the daily briefing of the State Department was suspended. To keep the lights and appliance working at the Capitol Complex, a generator was used.
Earnest said that operations went slow yet will be back soon at the White House complex.
