For Obama, an election-year budget without drama - Bryan-College Station Eagle

WASHINGTON (AP) — Six years into his presidency, President Barack Obama is sending Congress a budget that for once does not set the stage for a partisan showdown.

There's no push to overhaul health care, as he did in 2009.

There's no drive to restrict Wall Street, as in 2010.

There's no move to increase taxes, as in 2011 and 2012.

There's no effort to halt automatic spending cuts, as in 2013.

Politically speaking, the spending blueprint for 2015 that's coming out Tuesday will be a peace-time budget in an election year.

That means the most meaningful fights will take place in the campaigns, not on the floors of the House and Senate,

So the budget coming out Tuesday will basically offer a template for Democratic political messaging.
