It's the end of the road for Piers Morgan's CNN show, reports Politico and the New York Times .
Piers Morgan Live, which earned low ratings, could end as early as next month, though the former British tabloid editor may stay with the network in another role.
Morgan replaced Larry King in the coveted 9 p.m. slot three years ago.
"It's been a painful period and lately we have taken a bath in the ratings," Morgan told the New York Times. "Look, I am a British guy debating American cultural issues, including guns, which has been very polarizing, and there is no doubt that there are many in the audience who are tired of me banging on about it. ...That's run its course and (CNN President ) Jeff (Zucker) and I have been talking for some time about different ways of using me."
Morgan was interviewed late last year by London police in connection with an investigation into phone hacking at a newspaper where he had worked, but has not been charged.
