A 12-year-old California boy rode his new Christmas present into the street and lost his life.
Roman Martinez was using his new electric scooter that he just received for the holiday Friday when he rode down his driveway and into an incoming vehicle, reports TV Station KTLA.
The driver tried to hit the brakes in time but could not avoid the fatal collision, police said.
The 30-year-old driver stayed at the scene and tried to help. She has not been charged with the crash.

Roman, who the family said was so excited to use his new toy, was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries, the station reported.
Roland Martinez said his son was wearing his helmet.
"He had a real good sense of adventure," Roman's godmother Kathy Barnes told the station. "He was just a really good kid. He was never sad, always happy."

A memorial site full of lit candles, flowers and Roman's picture has been set up at the tragic scene of the accident and the family is pleading with motorists in the area to slow down in the residential neighborhood.
