North Carolina is getting set for a seriously wet and windy July 4.
Tropical Storm Arthur is just 5mph shy of turning into a hurricane - and is expected to hit or brush the state's coastline in the next 24 to 36 hours.
Currently 160mph southeast of Charleston, the weather system's 70mph winds continue to gain in strength as it moves north at 8mph.
The imminent threat has seen hurricane warnings issued for Surf City northward to Duck, Pamlico Sound and Eastern Albemarle Sound.
A hurricane watch is presently in place from Little River Inlet to south of Surf City.
And a series of tropical storm warnings also remain - from South Santee River, S.C., to south of Surf City, N.C.
They are also in effect from North of Duck to Cape Charles Light, Va. - but not including Cheasepeake Bay - and for Western Albemarle Sound.
The National Hurricane Center predicts Arthur, which dumped several inches of rain on Florida's east coast Wedsnesday, will turn to the north-northeast overnight.
It will then head to the northeast on Thursday.
The Sunshine State, which was bracing itself for a wet and windy Wednesday, now has no alerts in place.
