The former basketball coach of Jamie Carrillo, who's seen recording a phone call in which she confronted the educator last month, as been charged with 16 counts of sexual abuse.

A California educator who was confronted by a former student on YouTube last month has been charged with 16 felony counts of sexual abuse.

Andrea Cardosa, 40, was charged Monday with five counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child and 11 other counts of abuse by the Riverside County District Attorney's office who also announced a $5 million warrant for her arrest.

Cardosa, formerly a teacher and school administrator in Riverside County, is accused of sexually abusing a former student from 1997 to 2001 before abusing a second high school student in 2009 or 2010, according to the district attorney's office.

The shocking case against Cardosa first case came to light after a now 28-year-old Jamie Carrillo posted a video on YouTube showing her making a call to confront Cardosa about the abuse allegations that she said began when she was 12.

Carrillo said that she chose to publicly reveal the alleged crimes against Cardosa the way she did because she believed that a statute of limitations -- with the abuse allegedly taking place more than 13 years ago -- would prevent the former educator from being criminally charged.

But according to the district's Senior Public Information Specialist John Hall, because the five counts of aggravated sexual assault on a child carry potential life sentences a statute of limitations does not apply.

Hall also defended that the allegations by the second younger victim, who came forward just after Carrillo, would have been within the legal time frame.

In addition to Cardosa's charges of aggravated sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, she faces five counts of lewd acts on a child under the age of 14, and six counts of lewd acts on a child 14 or 15 years of age while the defendant is at least 10 years older than the victim.

Just after Carrillo, pictured, publicly came forward about the alleged abuse by the now former educator, a second former student came forward accusing Cardosa of the same.

Hall declined to say what evidence may be brought against Cardosa. He told the Daily News that what they have is "based on the evidence that we were given from the Riverside Police Department."

At this time Hall said that they don't know of any other victims that may be out there, but they are imploring any others to come forward.

"We've only charged her with two victims but as with any time you have a case like these there's always a potential that there may be more victims out there," he said.

Cardosa's lawyer, Randy Collins, said he couldn't immediately comment as he had not yet been advised by prosecutors of the charges.
