AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - State lawmakers are scrutinizing how medical officials handled the first confirmed U.S. case of Ebola at a Dallas hospital.
At the same time, the Texas Senate Health and Human Services Committee also will assess the state's overall readiness for coping with the virus and other dangerous diseases.
A special committee hearing is set for Tuesday at the Texas Capitol.
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital officials in Dallas list Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan in critical condition.
Duncan first visited the Dallas hospital but initially was sent home with antibiotics, despite having told medical personnel he'd traveled in Liberia. Duncan was eventually diagnosed with the virus last week.
Meanwhile, Gov. Rick Perry has created a 17-member task force to ensure Texas properly responds to infectious diseases like Ebola.
