The death of a "Cops" television crew member in Omaha will likely be discussed in future talks of the television show filming in Des Moines, a police department spokesman said Wednesday.

"If they come back in the future, I'm sure that it will come up," Des Moines Police Sgt. Jason Halifax said.

Bryce Dion, 38, was working as a sound technician for the television show "Cops" when he was fatally shot in Omaha on Tuesday night.

Dion was shot while he was with police officers responding to a robbery call at a Wendy's restaurant. Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said Dion died from "friendly fire" while police were shooting at the robbery suspect, according to the USA TODAY.

Other "Cops" crew members have been filming in Des Moines this summer. The two two-man crews will end their 10-week stint in Des Moines on Friday.

The "Cops" crews in Des Moines chose not to film on Wednesday, and will spend the rest of the week handing out T-shirts to police officers and spending time with the officers they met while in the city, said Matt Stannard, associate producer for the show.

Halifax suspected Dion's death will be part of future conversations regarding "Cops" coming back to the city, he said.

Before "Cops" can film in Des Moines, the police department's chief and command staff and the city council must all approve of it.

The show signs a contract with the city that essentially says the show must insure its crew and be liable for their well-being, unless their is negligence by the city.
