The woman accused of abandoning her 7-month-old daughter on a Manhattan subway station platform had a past as troubled as her present, family members said Tuesday.
Frankea Dabbs, in police custody a day after leaving the infant, was twice arrested for prostitution, battled mental health woes and cowered beneath a bed as her baby’s father was murdered in their home, according to relatives.
“She really needs help,” her aunt Lawanna Edmonds told the Daily News on Tuesday. “It’s not like she just abandoned the baby ... Me personally, I think the child is looking for help.”
Dabbs, 20, was living with Edmonds in North Carolina until she disappeared with the baby last week, leaving her father and other family members distraught.
Dabbs was charged with abandonment of little Mylanea Love Edmond and acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17, police said.
In statements to police, Dabbs said she couldn’t take care of her daughter.
“I think she needs help,” said her dad, Franklin Dabbs. “She’s been though a lot. Her boyfriend got killed. Her stepdad threw her out. It’s just sad.”
The dad said Frankea also had a pair of prostitution arrests in South Carolina and another in Raleigh, N.C.
Lawanna Edmonds said Frankea’s stepfather kicked her out of their house because she insisted on turning off the lights and living in the dark.
DCPI Mylanea is currently in the custody of the Administration for Children's Services.

“Stuff is wrong with Frankea’s mind,” she said. “She walks around with dark shades ... She even sleeps in dark shades. I really believe there is something mentally wrong with Frankea.”
The lonesome little girl was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital after a woman spotted the baby sitting alone in her red-and-white polka dot stroller at the busy Columbus Circle station on Monday afternoon.
Mylanea had a slight rash but was in otherwise good health, and was eventually sent to the Administration for Children’s Services, cops said.
The baby’s dad was gunned down a few months ago during a robbery at the couple’s home in Clinton, N.C., said Franklin Dabbs.

“Some guys with masks broke into the house and killed him,” said Dabbs. “She was there hiding under the bed. I told her, ‘It could have been you.’”
Frankea Dabbs — who turns 21 in 12 days — was riding aboard an uptown No. 1 train when it reached the Manhattan stop and she shoved the strollers onto the platform.
The mom continued riding the train, cops said.
