An explosion occurred today in a building in Manhattan's crowded East Harlem neighborhood, collapsing at least part of the structure.
East Harlem residents have reported hearing a loud explosion in the six-story apartment building, and seeing smoke plumes rise from a building at 116th Street and Park Avenue around 9:30 a.m.
A fire was reported in the building and the structural integrity of the structure may be compromised, with witnesses reporting a partial roof collapse.
The extent of possible injuries is not yet known.
